When travelling to Namibia, being well-prepared can enhance your experience and ensure a smooth journey. Here are some essential tips:

VISAS 

Namibia has changed its visa requirements for many countries including the US, Germany and Japan. Please check the latest requirements for your nationality with your nearest Namibian consulate.

HEALTH 

Namibia is generally a low-risk area for malaria, but if you're travelling to the north, particularly near the Kavango and Zambezi regions, taking anti-malarial medication and using insect repellent is recommended. Vaccinations for yellow fever are only required if arriving from a high-risk country. Consult a healthcare professional for recommended vaccinations, and it’s wise to carry a basic first aid kit for minor ailments.

CURRENCY 

The official currency is the Namibian Dollar (NAD), which is pegged to the South African Rand (ZAR). ATMs are available in cities and towns, but it’s a good idea to carry cash when visiting remote areas, as card facilities can be limited.

BEST TIME TO VISIT 

Namibia’s autumn (March to May) and dry winter season, from June to August, are ideal for wildlife viewing, especially in Etosha National Park. Winter is also the coolest season for exploring the desert landscapes of Sossusvlei and the Skeleton Coast. Spring (September to November) sees temperatures begin to soar, especially inland away from the coast and summer (December to February) is when rain is most likely, bringing a vibrancy to the landscapes and fewer tourists, but some roads in remote areas may be less accessible and the daytime temperatures are high.

PACKING ESSENTIALS

Light, breathable clothing for hot days and warmer layers for cool evenings are recommended, especially in the desert. Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), and a good camera are essential for capturing Namibia’s stunning landscapes and wildlife. Binoculars are helpful for wildlife and birdwatching.
