EXPLORE THE HIGHLIGHTS

THE OKAVANGO DELTA

One of the world’s largest inland deltas, the Okavango Delta is a lush oasis in the heart of Botswana, covering up to 15,000 square kilometres during the peak floods of the annual inundation. Fed by the Okavango River, its waters never reach the sea, instead creating a unique wetland ecosystem. The delta is home to an incredible array of wildlife, including elephant, lion, hippo, and a rich variety of bird species. Its pristine condition, supported by careful conservation efforts, makes it one of Africa’s top safari destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

BOTSWANA TRAVEL TIPS

When travelling to Botswana, it’s important to be well-prepared for a safe and enjoyable experience. Here are some essential tips...

VISAS

Most visitors, including those from the UK, US, and EU, do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days. However, always check the latest requirements before travelling.

HEALTH

Botswana is a malaria-risk area, particularly in the northern regions, so take anti-malarial precautions and use insect repellent. Vaccinations for yellow fever are only required if you're arriving from a high-risk country. Always carry a well-stocked first aid kit, as medical facilities in remote areas are limited.

CURRENCY

The official currency is the Botswana Pula (BWP). ATMs are available in towns and cities, but it’s a good idea to carry cash for more remote areas, where card payments might not be accepted.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Botswana’s dry season, from May to October, is the best time for wildlife viewing. This is when animals gather around water sources, making them easier to spot. However, the rainy season (November to April) brings lush landscapes and migratory birds, offering a different kind of beauty.

PACKING ESSENTIALS

Lightweight clothing for the day and warmer layers for the cooler mornings and evenings are a must. Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen), and a good camera are essential for safari-goers. Binoculars are also highly recommended for wildlife viewing and birding.

SAFETY

Botswana is one of the safest countries in Africa, but it’s always wise to follow basic safety precautions. Avoid displaying valuables and keep an eye on personal belongings in public areas. When on safari, always follow the instructions of your guide, as wildlife can be unpredictable.

CONSERVATION AWARENESS

Botswana places a strong emphasis on eco-tourism. Be mindful of the environment, respect wildlife, and avoid using single-use plastics. Supporting local conservation efforts through responsible tourism can help protect Botswana’s unique ecosystems.
